What’s up with that oil spill? Crazy stuff, right? This week’s episode is totally unrelated although the recent heat wave that just ended here in NYC has me thinking about some summer jams.
Enjoy.

Def Jux Records has been a powerhouse for the last ten years in independent and underground hip hop. When it announced early this month that it was closing doors I knew just what I had to do. This.
Also I want to link to the tow films I mention here.
Anvil: The Story of Avnil and
Momz Hot Rocks.

There are a lot of great flavors on this weeks song. We start off hot and streamy, get a bit frazzled in the middle and wrap it up with a cool minty finish. In that way it’s like drinking hot car wax poured over a mint chocolate chip sundae... hmmmm hot car wax!

Tonight we get into some new music from some old favorites as well as some pretty classic hip hop just to balance the scales. What does that even mean?

This is the last time I’ll be alone before the new year so I wanted to clear a few tracks off my desk. I start with some soul music – something I love and always ask myself “why didn’t you play and rhythm and soul on this weeks show?” I end the show with a few tracks that are awesome but do not play well with others. The second half is like musical fostercare

This week my friend Luke Wilcox makes up for the fact that I didn’t do my job (AKA: Prepare a episode of this fucking show) Luckily for all of us Luke taste in music doesn’t not, as the French say, shitty.

Another week jammed full of new music. This might be the most chock-full-a-jams episode all summer. Which is nice since its’ the last time I’ll be alone before Labor Day.

I stopped by Erik’s place and he played a ton of old late eighties rap for me. Kind of awesome. Just us, the records, 8 arnold palmers and vodka and his cat, who I am wildly allergic to.

UPDATE: There was a problem with this week’s episode. I fixed it.
Just Me and you this week as I try to clear my plate of new albums… New Danger Mouse, Mos Def, Blank Dogs, Rainbow Arabia, Fever Ray and YACHT. Phew! I barely have time in this episode for the theme song.

When I asked Orna Bradshaw to join me for this week’s episode I knew things were going to get interesting but I don’t think I was prepared for how interesting. Did I say interesting? I meant strange. Very strange, although somehow we managed to pull it together long enough to record the thing. Lot’s of old school hip hop and even more of what we both called “summer jams”. It is a summery kind of episode.

Again I find myself all alone in the Enthusiastic Amateur studio with my Coors and pulled pork sandwich (Shout out to Kings County BBQ, best in NYC). No matter, we’ll have friends next week. For this week I’ve crammed together a bunch of songs I love. No order and no theme. If pushed on it, and clearly you are going to push, I’d say the first half is an eclectic mix with some avand-garde, some garage rock from Japan some Jazz and a little of the (relatively) new Animal Collective. The second half has a few new bands and some classic tracks from the last few years. After the regimentation of The Rece$$ion Mix I was ready to just cut loose a bit. Merci.

I know what Prez BO said this week and I’ll tell you, I for one am hoping this bullshit recession is over by the time summer gets here. I’ve got summer cocktails that need drinking. Well, until everyone gets their act together we’ve got the Recession mix… Hopfully this makes losing your shitty job a little less shitty.
